You know, I tried many things to get my computer to work better. I just got so sick and tired of my laptop running so poorly! I actually lost an online auction because my computer decided to freeze up at the wrong time (lol)! Before I was about ready to smash my laptop with a sledge hammer, here are two things I was recommended to do in order to try and make my computer running faster:
1.) One of the most common things I heard was to defragment my hard drive. This is a feature found in all Microsoft operating systems (which you can find in the Start menu and under System Tools). Although it took a LONG time for this process to go through, I did notice a slight improvement with my computer.
2.) Another thing I was recommended to do was to remove any unwanted files on my hard drive. This ranged from software that I installed that I was no longer using to pictures on my computer that I didn't want anymore. Now, since I have an automotive detailing business, I had a ton of photos of automobiles that I've detailed sitting on my computer. After deleting some of the ones I didn't need, I freed up a TON of space! This step increased the speed and performance some more.
Now, although those methods above did improve my computer somewhat, I still was having a lot of problems, and that was until I found out something that is more than likely causing ALL of my problems:
My registry needed to be cleaned.
I had no idea what a registry was but once I found out, it was clear that this was what is causing me my daily headaches!
I found out that the registry stores all sorts of information from the activities you do on your computer rather it is downloading music, software, installing/removing programs, and so much more. The thing is though, if the registry becomes too full or gets corrupted with spyware, trojans, or viruses, this will cause your computer to perform extremely poorly.
The best thing to do to fix the registry is to firstly download a registry scanner to go through your computer to find out what's wrong. Secondly, be sure to get a safe and effective registry cleaner software to repair your computer... COMPLETELY! I stressed "completely" because there are some programs that are free but they will not get rid of the major issues effecting your computer.
