Why Free Makes It Easy - You've Got to Give Before You Get Principle

,
BEST MUSIC MAKING SOFTWARE :

Do you know what the most frequently used word is that people type in a search box on the internet? Knowing what this word is and using it to it's fullest extent can literally EXPLODE your sales if you run an online business. Let me explain.

Why Free Makes It Easy - You've Got to Give Before You Get Principle

The all important word is FREE!!!

The word that is used in searches on the internet more than any other is FREE. Everyone loves something for nothing. No one wants to pay for something if they can get it for free.

Think about all the times you have searched for something on the internet. Weather it was for information, a service, a product, in fact anything. Did you just type in the description, a keyword or phrase, or did you put 'free' before it? If you obmitted the word free, when the search engines generated the results, I guarantee it gave you a list of 'related searches' containing the keywords you used with 'free' in front of them.

The benefit of giving something for free.

As an online business, if you offer a product, service or some information for free, it can have great returns.

First of all it boosts your search engine rankings. As the word is typed into a search more than any other, having it optimized on your website will have amazing dividends.

Once a customer has found you in their search results, further use of the word free will draw them in even more. Giving them something for nothing if they visit your site is a big attraction. In fact it is such a huge attraction that I can't emphisize how important it is.

How giving something for free can make you money.

When someone visits your site to claim their freebie, several things can happen.

In order to get their free product, they have to give you their name and email address. This is the #1 reason for offering it to them in the first place.

It is highly unlikely that someone will buy something on their first visit to a website. And unless there is an excellent reason for them to return, they may never visit again.

By having their email address, you can contact them and remind them to revisit your site. You can offer them 'special offers' and affiliate sales through your correspondence emails.

It is a well known fact that there needs to be an average of 7 contacts (sales pitches, remind revisits, offers etc...)with a customer before they will actually buy something. The reasons for this are quite lengthy and are a whole other article, so lets stick to the matter at hand.

By being able to have the important contact with your customers, your chances of them making a purchase have increased significantly.

They learn to 'trust you', you become familiar to them and that is what often clinches the deal. You gain these things from your customers and then they buy.

So, that's how you make money from giving away something for free.

The quality of free.

The item that you offer, weather it be a subscription to an ezine, an ebook, report or software, MUST be of good quality.

If the customer receives their freebie and the quality is poor, they will not come back to your website and buy anything.

Even if you are the best website in your niche, offering the best deals, they will never find out, because they just won't come back.

On the other hand, if they are impressed by their free gift, they are more than likely to visit you website again and again. High quality, useful products are an essential if you want the 'freeie offer' to work for you.

How you can drive traffic to your website using 'free'.

Classified ads are a fantastic way to drive traffic to your website. The headline and description should be centered around the infamous "what's in it for me". That is offering them a freebie. This will intice them to click the link and visit your website.

You can post classifieds for free. Just type 'free classifieds' into the search box and choose from the 1000's of results that the search engines produce. Submit your ads often and the traffic will keep coming.

Other ways to drive traffic using 'free'.

Simply use it anywhere your ads appear. If you publish articles, reports or ebooks, put your offer in your resource box. If you use pay-per-click, use the offer as your ad copy. Advertising in ezines, weather its your own, an affiliates or bought advertising, again use the free offer in your resource box.

Choose carefully.

When deciding on what it is that you will give way, there is one piece of advice that is vital.

Make the free item appropriate to you audience. Whatever niche you operate it, stick with the theme.

If you offer an ebook on 'how to knit fancy tea cosies' and your business sells musical instruments, you will be heading for a problem.

The customer will visit your website to get their ebook. They will download it and probably be very pleased if it contained high quality information on 'how to knit fancy tea cosies'. When you contact them via email with for example a 'special offer on violin strings', unless by some highly unlikely, random chance that they play the violin, they will not visit your website again.

No matter how many emails you send them, their interest was tea cosies, not musical instruments. Why should they visit your site again? The fact is they won't.

So be mindful of what your own niche actually wants and give it to them.

In conclusion, the more you offer freebies, the more money you will make.

It is one of the best traffic drivers and is a straight forward concept.

Now that you have this little golden nugget of valuable information, get to work. Plan what you could offer, to whom, when and where.

Decide on a product that you can legally give away. Make it something that is useful to your own niche market. Adcertise it everywhere you can and your opt-in-list will grow very quickly. After all 'the money is in the list', but again, that's another article.

Below is a perfect example of the 'free' offer. I didn't make it up, it's for real and it works.

Make Your Own Beats Today

,
BEST MUSIC MAKING SOFTWARE :

You are passionate about making your own beats. You want to share your music with the world. You have the will, but you don't have the finances to purchase all the expensive equipment that you think you need. What do you do?

Make Your Own Beats Today

I hear you and I can relate in a big way. I can't afford the expensive home recording equipment either. So, I went in search of the right tools to help me succeed in producing my own music. Read on and I will take you on my journey and how you will learn to make your own beats too.

As you start out producing your own music, you will probably try reproducing other people's beats. But you will soon learn that you must be creative and create your own beats to give to your audience. You have musical vision, it will just take some practice to get it out and it will take the right beat making software to help you.

Do You Need Expensive Home Recording Equipment?

In a word, "No". You can hear the sounds and effects in your head, but finding the right samples is difficult if you don't have the right music recording equipment at your disposal. You can produce Rap, Hip Hop, Rock, R & B, Reggae, Jazz or any style you want but only if you have the right product to use. I spent years trying to find what works best. You don't need to do all this work, I have done it for you.

Then How Can You Start Making Your Own Beats Today?

You can begin to make your own beats today, you just need the right beat making software. There are many beat making programs out there, but they are not all the same. Some are very complicated and can take a long time to learn. Some are free, but these lack the depth of better programs and they don't have the sound libraries either.

You could always invest thousands of dollars for home recording studio equipment, but this would not be wise as beat making software can provide equal quality at a fraction of the price.

Should You Use Software or Hardware?

To let your music out, all you need is good beat making software. You don't need to purchase all the expensive home recording equipment. You don't need to try the free programs as they are ineffective.

All you need is an easy to use, cheap, high quality program. You can begin to make your own beats today and let your superstar out right now.

Learn How to Be a DJ

,
BEST MUSIC MAKING SOFTWARE :

Once you have your DJ consol set up ready and you have started the never-ending obsession of collecting music, the next step is to become familiar with the basic principles of mixing. The idea of mixing is to join records so that the music plays continuously rather than as separate tracks. To begin with, don't worry too much about beat matching (unless you are feeling exceptionally confident). Instead try to get used to the main functions of the turntables and the mixer and with the idea of moving between the 2 selected tracks.

Learn How to Be a DJ

Cuing Up
Cuing up a record is simply finding the start point from where you can begin mixing. Often this is the first sound you hear, but not always so it would be wise to choose a simple House record that opens with a strong beat to start with.

Listening for the cue point (Fig.1)
-Push the fader up for the channel you are playing on, and the crossfader to the correct side.
-Start the record's rotation with the start/stop button.
-Place the needle on the outer rim of the vinyl surface.
-Wait until the music starts then press start/stop to halt the record's rotation.

(Fig.1)

Lining up the cue point (Fig.2)
-Slowly wind the record back until the first beat slips by in reverse.
-Place hand on the vinyl (usually half way between the outer rim and the label at 8 o' clock)
-Without applying too much pressure to the holding hand, use the other to start the record's rotation again. (The platter should still be spinning without resistance, but the record should be stationary).
-Manually push and pull the vinyl so that it passes back and forth over the first sound (cue point) and then in your own time release in place of one of the forward pushes.

(Fig.2)

Now repeat the same technique, but try to do it without stopping the record's rotation between listening and lining up the cue point so that the platter is in constant motion.

Advanced Cueing
"I am the one because I know where the one is!" (Bernard Perdie- Drummer)
Some records do not start on the down beat or even with a beat at all! These are harder to use as the cue point is not as easy to define. It is important to listen to records before you try mixing it so you begin to hear the places where you should try dropping it in.

Anacrusis (Up beats)
Anything that precedes the down beat is called an anacrusis (up beat). Imagine a record of the children's rhyme "The Owl And The Pussy Cat"! If you recite this poem, the strong down beat is on 'Owl' not on the first sound which is 'The'. This means that 'The' is an anacrusis. Your cue point on this hypothetical record would therefore have to 'Owl' in order for the rhythm to flow correctly.
Sometimes an anacrusis can have several sounds before the down beat, so listen carefully to where the emphasis falls. Generally in Dance music, this is accentuated by the kick drum.

Instrumental openings
Many records open with rhythmically unaccompanied pads, synth stabs, keyboards or basslines before the entrance of the beat. You can deal with this in two ways. Firstly, play through the intro until the beat comes in then cue it up to the downbeat. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, try to listen through the record to see how the instrumental elements fit around the beat when it is present, then return to the start and cue up the record. Imagine the beat of the tune as you remember it and then release the record in its correct place so that the instrumental groove fits along to the drums that are accompanying it in your mind. (This is obviously much harder to do and will require a keenly developed sense of internal rhythm).

Fading
On a mixer, you have two main fader options. The channel faders (often called 'up-faders') and the crossfader (Fig.3). The up-faders control the volume of each separate channel, whereas the crossfader moves between the channels passing from one to another with a 'mix' in the middle.
It is probably best at this stage to use the up-faders with their gradual curve from silence to full volume as the 'blending' faders and the crossfader as more immediate 'switch' between the two channels (assuming your mixer enables you to alter the crossfader curve). This is not a compulsory way of having the mixer set, but if you put a gradual fade on the crossfader, you will have the 2 kinds of fader doing the same job rather than fulfilling separate roles.

(Fig.3)

As well as setting your crossfader to a sharp curve, also ensure that the channels are assigned properly to the two sides. On mixers with more than 2 channels, you will need to designate each channel to a particular side of the fader. If you don't do this, or leave the crossfader assigns off, you will not be able to use the crossfader to cut from deck to deck.
Before learning how to beatmatch, you should practice fading between two records in the way that the original DJs did before blending became prevalent. You are likely to encounter some rhythmic clashes (known affectionately as 'train wrecks') whilst perfecting this particular technique, but try not to worry too much about this for the time being.

Fading between two records
-Cue up two records (1 on each turntable) then start to play the first record with the crossfader over to the relevant side for that channel. (Step1)
-Bring the up-fader for the second channel down to zero.
-When the first record has played for a certain amount of time, move the crossfader into the middle and start playing the second record. (Step2)
-Gradually bring the up-fader for the second channel up whilst simultaneously bringing the up-fader for the first channel down until the second record is all that is left.
-Move the fader over to the relevant side for the second channel and stop the first record (Step3)

Step1

Step2

Step3

You have just completed your first mix! Now try to cue up a different record on the original turntable and repeat the progress from channel 2 back to channel 1.

It is advisable to choose, if possible, sections of a record where the track breaks down to its musical elements only (i.e. no drums, but strings/pads, keys etc.) for uncomplicated fades. Even without beatmatching, this will result in a more natural blending of the two records.

Beatmatching

Beatmatching was first introduced by the early Disco DJs such as Francis Grasso, Steve D'Aquisto and Nicky Siano. As the equipment improved, this technique, rough at first, became perfect. Another major step in the history of beatmatching was the introduction of music that used beats constructed on a drum machine rather than live breaks where drummers' beats were subject to fluctuations in tempo.

On modern turntables (both vinyl and CD) and on software programs it is totally possible to beatmatch with 100% precision. This is one of the principal skills that needs real practice in order to perfect. There are very few people (even trained musicians) who succeed the first time, so don't be discouraged by any initial failures. You won't be the first or the last person to produce some real 'train wrecks'! Some superb DJs have taken months or even a couple of years to perfect the technique of beatmatching. It is also fair to say that your progress will be greatly helped if you team up with a friendly and patient DJ who can already beatmatch. This DJ 'buddy' will be able to show you where you are going wrong, and how to correct the mistake!

Varispeed Controls On Turntables
Fig.1 shows you the basic varispeed functions of a typical turntable. DJ turntables enable you to alter the speed within the margin of +8/-8%. Some turntables extend this to +16/-16%, but a record played this far away from its original speed will not sound at all good! The varispeed slider controls the pitch in a smooth gradient between these two extremities.
You should start by experimenting with the effect this has on the sound of a record. The further into the minus speed you go, the slower the record will play. The key will drop (approximately by a whole tone e.g. G to F), vocals will sound deeper and more ponderous. In contrast, as you more into the plus speed area, the faster the record will spin. The key will move up (again by roughly a whole tone e.g. from G to A) and any vocals will sound higher and chirpier.

Fig.1

Records will either run at 331/3 r.p.m. (revolutions per minute) or at 45 r.p.m. This is usually dependent on the length of the track. 45 r.p.m. gives a louder and more detailed cut, but will only allow a maximum of 8 minutes of music per side. 331/3 r.p.m. is quieter and slightly less defined as the grooves are closer and shallower, but allows more running time.

The red strobe light located beneath the power switch has little use in practical mixing terms, but it is a good way of checking whether the motors of the deck are working properly. With the platter spinning at 0 speed, the largest set of dots will appear stationary. At -3.3, this will be the outer set of dots, at +3.3 the 2nd inner set and at +6, the innermost set. The target light shines across the path of the cartridge and allows you to see the progress of the needle as it moves through the track. All records play from the outer rim into the spindle with the exception of a bizarre early 90's Techno record by Reece called Funky Funk Funk (Network Records 23) that plays from the inside out!

Beatmatching Two Records
There are numerous analogies for beatmatching two records together; one of the best being the idea of two cars driving along a motorway. One may be a VW Golf, and the other a Peugeot 306 (different makes and looks but similar vehicles). The aim is for both cars to drive side by side with their front bumpers in parallel. In order to do this, they will each need to concentrate on their speed in comparison to the other. If one starts to pull away, it will need to come back into line or the other will need to edge forwards to match it. Pre-planned acceleration and agreed speed will help, but ultimately it will come to the use of eyes and feel.

Now replace these two cars with two records of a similar style (House vs. D&B is like a VW Golf vs. a Ferrari!) with one on each turntable. The aim is now to align the beats and bars of the two records so that they are riding in parallel (Fig.2).

(Fig.2)

The two records above are beatmatched. Notice how the beat count and all the elements of the drums are falling in exactly the same place; kick for kick, snare for snare and hat for hat. Even allowing for variance in the tonal sound of these elements (i.e. Record 1 might have a snappier snare, more hollow kick or tinnier hi-hats) these two beats would mould into one.

Headphone Cueing (Fig.3)
-Take two records of a similar style (House is recommended as it will almost certainly be 4-to-the-floor) with a strong, simple beat at the start.
- With the crossfader over and the up-fader at full volume for the relevant channel, start to play the first record.
-Switch the headphone cue to the second deck and begin to play the second record.
-Find the cue point for the second record and manually hold the record ready for release.

(Fig.3)

You will be listening to Record 1 through the speakers and Record 2 in the headphones. To compare the two, have one headphone cup over one ear but take the other cup off.

Comparing Records Ready For The Mix (Fig.4)
-First listen to Record 1 whilst holding Record 2 in readiness (This is a little like a relay runner waiting for their partner to give them the baton before they take off on their own stint).
-Release Record 2 in time with the downbeat from Record 1.
-As the two Records spin together listen between 'headphone ear' and 'speaker ear'.

Fig.4

Starting To Beatmatch Two Records
Assuming you are not fortunate enough to have chosen two records with exactly the same bpm. (if this is the case reselect a different tune- this lucky mistake won't help you to learn the art of beatmatching!), there are two possible scenarios.

The first scenario is that Record 2 will start to pull ahead of Record 1, which means that it is a faster track. The second scenario is that Record 2 will begin to fall behind Record 1, which means that it is a slower track.
The bpm difference of the two records will decide how quickly this happens. If Record 2 is only 1 bpm faster or slower than Record 1, it will gradually glide out of sync. If the difference is greater, they will fall out even within half a bar. Several seconds later they will be fighting like Tom & Jerry armed with pots and pans!)

Scenario A- Record 2 Is Faster (Begins To Pull Ahead Of Record 1)
Fig.5 shows you what happens when Record 2 is faster than record 1. Notice how, despite starting together, Record 2 is moving through the beat count and (consequently its hit-points) faster. By the end of the bar, Record 2 is out of sync with Record 1.

Fig.5

In order to correct this situation, you need to do two things.

Correcting The Pitch Of A Faster Record (Fig.6)
-First manually restrain Record 2 so it comes back into line with Record 1. This only requires you to stroke the record against the flow, not actually pull it back. You may wish to apply light pressure to the side of the platter where the strobe dots are.
-Secondly, move the varispeed slider back so that the record is now also spinning a little slower than before. (You have to estimate the amount required. Sometimes you will change the speed too much or not enough requiring you to repeat the process).

Fig.6

Scenario B- Record 2 Is Slower (Begins To Fall Behind Record 1)
Either because it starts out slower, or because you have overstepped the mark in correcting a faster record, Record 2 way start to fall behind (Fig.7). Notice how, despite starting together, Record 2 is moving through the beat count (and consequently its hit-points) slower. By the end of the bar, Record 2 is again out of sync with Record 1.

Fig.7

Again, in order to correct this situation, you need to do two things.

Correcting The Pitch Of A Slower Record (Fig.8)
-First manually push Record 2 forwards so it catches up with Record 1. This only requires you to gently encourage the Record with the flow, not actually shove it forwards. Too much push and it will lurch ahead.
-Secondly, move the varispeed slider forwards so that the record is now also spinning a little faster than before. (Again, you need to estimate the amount required. Sometimes you will change the speed too much or not enough requiring you to repeat the process).

Fig.8

You may well need to perform the above steps numerous times; each time becoming more and more accurate until you hit the correct speed. Correcting the speed to match the beats of two records is a process of elimination; trial and error until you have it.
Sometimes you will end up with the two turntables spinning 10% away from each other; other times the difference may only be ½%
Even when you think you have the two records running in sync, you will need to keep concentrating on the beat alignment incase one starts to drag behind or pull ahead of the other.

Performing A Mix (Fig.9)
When you are happy with the result, bring Record 2 in using the fading technique. If you have got it right, the two records will be mixed as one. If you have got it wrong, they will clash in an alarming way! Every DJ has done this many times, so don't worry. Simply re-cue the records and have another go! Often it is sensible to re-cue anyway so that you can choose a good place to drop your mix.

Fig.9

It is advisable at all stages to keep the headphones on your head so you can reference the second record as you mix it in. Many DJs lose a mix because they take their headphones off just as they bring it in. Unless you are very experienced at 'ambient mixing', this is a foolish thing to do. You may well correct the speed of the wrong record if the mix starts to slide out, therefore making the clash worse!

Remember, beatmatching is a challenge, so don't be disappointed if you struggle to mix two records at first. It takes time, and when you finally get it, you will have every reason to feel that you have achieved something!

An Online Guide For PSP Emulator And Games

,
BEST MUSIC MAKING SOFTWARE :

Sony's PSP, a wonder baby in the world of gaming is a quite advanced device with lots of features. The fact that makes it amazing is that it can download and use emulators and games quite easily. And you could just not imagine what incredible stuff you could do with an emulator. Wouldn't it be fun to play the best and the latest games on your very own PSP.

An Online Guide For PSP Emulator And Games

There are a bit of complications while using an emulator. When I first bought the PSP, I thought that I would only have to load the game on the memory stick and then launch them. But it was not all that simple, there was more to it.

Getting emulator software is the first step towards downloading new games for your PSP. Softwares can be found on a million sites on the internet, but most of these sites are not at all secured, they can infect your PC or PSP with viruses, adwares, etc. In the article I will tell you about a reliable site that I discovered during my searches on the internet. In most cases the emulator and the games are found in totally different sites, but if you find them on one site, then consider yourself completely luckily.

The could be a few problems while using the PSP emulator and games, one such problem could be that the firmware of your console does not support the emulator and to solve this you would have to downgrade you firmware to a previous version. You should always remember that while downloading games without payment you could at times have really serious problem, like that of copyright which could land you into some legal soup.

It is really difficult to find a trusted site to get games and downloads for your PSP. Many sites offer free download services, I suggest you don't fall bait to such sites. They are just here to make money with ads on their sites. At times you find a few sites where download is possible, but most often these sites have only a few games with low download speeds and many such problems. And from these sites you are most likely to get infected by viruses.

Many of these free service sites most often turn out to be scams. They usually try to charge you money as time goes by. Their sites are usually a source of frustration. And to really get some information on some reliable source for PSP downloads please checkout this link: [http://www.PSPDownloadToday.com].

SEO In Web Design - Search Engine Optimization In A Nutshell

,
BEST MUSIC MAKING SOFTWARE :

Many articles and books have been written on Search Engine Optimization by experts and non-experts alike. And there are many debates on the various techniques of how to optimize web sites so that traffic is increased. But my purpose here is to explain what I believe are the important basics that you should know.

SEO In Web Design - Search Engine Optimization In A Nutshell

SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization. It is defined as the process of increasing traffic (the amount of visitors) to a web site. The higher a web site ranks the greater the chances that it will be visited by someone. You know yourself that when you go to Google and search for something that you generally view the first page that comes up and possibly the second page before you find something. So where a web site is ranked is essential for directing more traffic. SEO helps to ensure that a site is easily available to a search engine.

But, what is a "search engine"? A search engine is a software program that searches web documents (pages) for specified keywords and key phrases and returns a list of web pages where the keywords and key phrases were found. Google would be a prime example.

Typically, how a search engine works is by sending out a "spider" to retrieve as many web pages as possible. Then an "indexer" reads these web pages and creates a catalog based on the words contained within each web page. Each search engine uses a proprietary algorithm so that specific results are shown.

A "spider" or "webcrawler", as it's sometimes called, is a program that automatically retrieves web pages and are used to send these pages to search engines. It's called a spider because it crawls over the web. Because most web pages contain links to other web pages, a spider can start just about anywhere. As soon as it "sees" a link to another page, it goes off and captures it.

You're probably asking yourself: How do I get my web site included in search engine queries?

A search engine finds information by accepting listings sent in by authors (web site owners) wanting exposure, or by getting the information from "web crawlers," "spiders," or "robots," programs that wander the Internet and store information about each page they visit.

They normally start with a catalogued list of links, which are usually the most popular or best web sites, and then they follow those links to find more links and are added to the database. Unfortunately this makes most search engines biased toward the more popular web sites. The web crawler might send back just the title and URL or it could send the entire page.

About Keywords And Key Phrases In SEO

It's very important to have your keywords and key phrases geared to the basic subject matter of your web site. Keywords are important, but key phrases can be vitally important.

Here's why: Suppose you have a web site all about classical music for children. Go to Google and type "music" (without the quotes) into the search area. You probably got about 1,080,000,000 results (as of this writing) with the top web sites being located within the first page or two. What do you think your chances are to being among them?

So to have "music" as one of your keywords would not be a good choice. It's too broad. But, what if you were to make a key phrase more specific to your web site by entering "music for children"? This time you got about 188,000,000 listings. And then even more specific, "classical music for children", where you'll get about 45,700,000 listings. And finally, "mozart for children" which gave you about 3,110,000 listings. So you see how this works? The more specific your keywords and key phrases, the more specific the results will be and your chances of receiving targeted visitors to your website will increase. This is especially important if you're paying for these clicks such as in PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising.

About The Title Tag In SEO

The single most important area of your web page is the title. The title is the headline or label of the web page. This is what you see in the top header of your web browser, such as Internet Explorer, when a web page comes up. Simple enough? You would think so but it's really not that simple.

How many web pages make up your web site? Each one should have it's own title. What should you put in a title? Well, for starters, check out what keywords and key phrases are most appropriate for what's on the particular web page. For instance, going back to the classical music for children web site, we see that "mozart for children" was used as a key phrase, but wait, you also have information about Beethoven, Bach, Chopin and Debussy.

Your first page, or index (Home) page will be where people are directed first. This is where you will be introducing yourself and your web site. This is where you will be generalizing about the music offerings by Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Chopin and Debussy. So it would be logical to put "Classical Music For Children" as your title tag and then if you have each page thereafter more specific, such as "mozart for children", you would make that the title for that specific web page. So if you're one of those people that think "Welcome to my website" is a good title, think again!

About Domain Names In SEO

Equally important is your domain name. A domain name should also include a keyword of what your website is about. For instance, you want to have a web site about classical music for children. You've gathered all the information and written content for each page dividing them by composers. You now have a conglomerate of information about classical music for children. You could choose "classicalmusicforchildren.com" as your domain name, or "kidsclassicalmusic.com", or just "classicalmusic4kids.com". Get the idea?

About Meta Tags In SEO

Meta Tags provide information about the document to search engines for inclusion of your website into their indexes. Although Google ignores the meta tags except perhaps for the description meta tag but the other search engines use them.

The two meta tags that search engines look for are the meta keywords tag and the meta description tag. We've already touched on the keywords, and the description tag is basically a key phrase description of your website. It should only be 10-20 words describing with keyword rich content but should read intelligible to the user. Each search engine is different in how it looks at each website, however, the keyword meta tag has been highly abused by some webmasters because they'll use unrelated words in order to attract more traffic. This is taking a quite a chance because some search engines will ban a website for "spamming" them with tons of highly unrelated keywords. But if used smartly and in conjunction with other things on your web pages, specifically content, then chances are the search engines will be crawling all over your site.

About Content In SEO

Content is king. We can't stress this enough. What you say within your website and how you say it is very important to search engines. Keep it rich with keywords and key phrases while making it easy-to-read and understand. Remember it only takes about 6-10 seconds to lose a visitor, so also keep it brief and to the point.

The time it takes to get included into the search engine's database is typically about 6-8 weeks. No one has control over how long this process takes. But what most people don't realize is that once a web site gets listed into a catalogued database, it won't be there for long unless there are regular updates to that web site. Search engines are very smart. They'll be checking their databases to see if web sites still exist and to see if they've been recently updated.

Unleash the Songwriter With Loops

,
BEST MUSIC MAKING SOFTWARE :

Sometimes as songwriters, we get stuck in a rut, or we write a beautiful guitar/piano line and it just lies there flat, because it's just missing something. Now what? I have a buddy, that is a killer musician, but he's tied up. OR if your like a bunch of us, your musical group of friends is sparse.

Unleash the Songwriter With Loops

Insert the perfectly in time, and always there for you friend... The loop. Loops are no longer reserved for just Hip Hop songs. Technology has evolved such, that you can now use loops that are professionally recorded studio musicians, and honestly, people you could only dream to play with. The best thing about loops is they can easily be altered with today's recording programs, to meet your needs of Key change, tempo, and mixing and matching to create a totally unique song, and most out there are Royalty free.

As songwriter's what we often need is a spark. We have a direction in our head, and we just need a little flame to ignite the fire. Loops provide a great resource for today's song writers. Not everyone plays an instrument, and most only play one. I can't tell you how many times I have written a song, that I would love to have drums on. Let alone, a cool piano riff or heck even a slide guitar. The point is, a strategically placed loop can open up your songs, in a direction that you didn't see coming. They make your songs fuller, and when mixed properly... more professional.

There are some really cool websites out there, that are royalty free, like Pianoloops.com and Freecountryloops.com, that offer a ton of free downloads.

I also use software like EZ Keys and Ez Drummer, and have even found inspiration with a site called Jamstudio.

What these programs and Loops offer, are inspiration. They help drag you out of the writer's block, and into a new direction. Whether you play an instrument or not, having other musicians and songwriter's around is not always a luxury we have. When you get into specialty instruments like dobro, harmonica, and the list goes on, it becomes even more difficult. We haven't even discussed the non-players and vocalists out there.

All in all, Loops can be your friend. So pick up your instrument, crank on a loop and I promise you, as a fellow songwriter, you will be amazed at what you are able to create. Even if you don't use them in your final product, the loops will spark your music in a new direction.

Comparing Laptop Computers And Tablets - Your Best Choice

,
BEST MUSIC MAKING SOFTWARE :

We can all agree that having an Internet connection is important these days. But there is some debate about what the best ways are to get online. There are multiple devices with this capability. Some users choose to online on their mobile phones. Others prefer using more of a traditional computer like a desktop or laptop. There is now more interest in tablets, though, and some people are wondering whether tablets are better than using a netbook or a laptop for a wireless Internet connection.

Comparing Laptop Computers And Tablets - Your Best Choice

Honestly the choice is going to be based on what you are doing online and on the device that you choose. For people that don't actually spend a whole lot of time online, because they don't have a personal computer or other device that they own, they may not realize what they could possibly use the net for.

Lots of people go online at work but don't really have the need to use the Internet when they are at home or away from the office. These people may not know how useful having a computer or other device at home could be for them. The Internet offers an infinite amount of possibilities, including banking, shopping, and having the ability to do some work out of the home to make your life at the office a bit easier.

If you need to use an actual computer, a laptop is generally the best route to go. If you have children, they could use it to do homework. Many kids these days have to create presentations with photos and music to present in class. If you consider yourself an amateur photographer, a laptop will allow you to use software such as Adobe Photoshop to edit your photos. If you use programs or files that are large in size, using a laptop is probably your best option in terms of portability.

When it comes to these cool new tablets, though, they are very tempting to purchase. Advertisers stress how fun they can be, which is why they are popular among younger users. The cost of a tablet is close to the price of a lower-end laptop computer, so they can be a reasonably priced solution for basic Internet browsing. In fact, some companies will offer you a free tablet when you purchase a new cell phone. This is a great way to save money on them.

In order to determine what is best for you, talk to a sales representative at an electronics or mobile store so you can weigh your options. Those who work at these stores are very knowledgeable about the overall functionality of tablets and laptops. Once you know more about each one, it will be easier to make a decision. It is important to be a wise consumer so that you get the right item and will be satisfied with it in the future.

12 Tech Writing Resume Tips

Keep in mind the following 12 steps when creating your technical writing resume:

1. Determine Your Objective

- Prior to writing the resume: clearly state what sort of a job you want know what kinds of skills and experiences are needed structure the content of your resume around that objective Example of a good objective: Contribute my technical writing skills to create user focused instruction manuals detailing software processes.

2. Be Clear and Concise

- The sole purpose of a resume is to have a potential employer contact you for an interview.
- It's a marketing tool to get you in front of your potential boss where you can do the sales pitch and close the deal.
- Put yourself in the shoes of the resume reader when considering the job qualifications needed for the position.

3. Use Bullet Points

- In the body, use bullet points with short sentences rather than lengthy paragraphs.
- Key phrases that stand alone and bulleted will help the reader see the important information at a glance.
- You can go into the details during the interview. Example:

Weak: Developed a communications process guide which consisted of 255 pages, eight case studies, 25 best practices, 36 charts and diagrams, 14 interviews, 20 communication mistakes to avoid and this manual was used by the hospital doctors and nurses to communicate with their patients.

- 8 case studies
- 25 best practices
- 36 charts and diagrams
- 14 interviews
- 20 communication mistakes to avoid

4. Use the Right Words

- Computers are often used to pick the resumes to be looked at by looking for keywords that have been picked by the hiring manager.
- These are key words that relate to the position.
- If your resume is scanned, the computer will pick up on these words.
- Use action verbs to describe what you've done.
- Words like prepared, managed, developed, monitored, and presented make your statements stronger.

5. Include Specific Figures

- Percentages, dollar totals, and numbers stand out in the body of a resume.
- Example: Weak: Created a technical manual for the VH5 Valve. Strong: Created an 87 page technical manual for the VH5 Valve.

6. Highlight Your Strengths

- What is most relevant to the potential employer?
- Determine which bullets most strongly support your job search objective.
- Put the strong and most relevant points first where they are more apt to be read.
- Focus on your achievements and contributions to the business development and success of your past employer.

7. Match the Needs of the Hiring Company

- Review job postings for positions that interest you.
- Listings almost always have a brief blurb about the company and the position available.
- Read the job description closely, use the key words listed in the ads, and match them to the bullet points in your resume.

8. Be Positive

- Don't include negative and irrelevant information.
- Leave out anything that might cause an unfavorable reaction.
- Leave off your graduation date if it could subject you to age discrimination.
- Leave off duties in your current job that don't support your job search objective.
- Leave off irrelevant personal information like your race, weight, height, religion, hobbies, music and food preferences, and political leanings unless they are vital to securing the position.

9. Make It Look Good

- Print the resume on good quality, white paper using black ink.
- Leave wide margins. The font size should be no smaller than 10 points.
- Don't pack the page with print.
- If necessary, use a second page.
- If you have a hard time filling the page with text, increase your line spacing to compensate and increase the white space.

10. Limit the Length

- The length of your resume should be no more than 2 pages.
- Two plus pages is usually more appropriate if you're after an upper management position.
- Generally, employers prefer a one page job resume, but they will read two if the resume is organized and focused and conveys a unique and interesting message of capability.
- Anything after the second page should be an addendum that supports the content of the first two pages.

11. Get Outside Opinions

- Always have two or more people review your resume. Get feedback that relates to: how others view your marketing materials are they impressed by the resume: content and format content that isn't clear content that isn't necessary missing content

12. Pay a Professional to Proofread

- No one can read her own writing and find all the spelling, grammar, or typing errors.
- It isn't worth any amount of money to lose the chance at a job due to a misspelled word.
- If you can't afford to get your resume proofread, have at least two (preferably three) other people whom you trust read it. It only takes one typo to turn a reader off.

Tips on Buying Music Gear for Home Studios

,
BEST MUSIC MAKING SOFTWARE :

Owning your recording studio at your home is an added advantage when you are a composer. But it is a challenge for getting the right kind of unit to sustain for a longer period of time and save money in the long run. Getting yourself an outdated system can not be worthwhile and reasonable. You cannot work for long with such system. This can cause you to spend more again and again. You should know what you want and get the compatible devices. Here you can find some of the basic tips on buying music gear that can guide you to assure the best results and save you from unnecessary expenditure.

Tips on Buying Music Gear for Home Studios

First of all you need to decide what kind of studio you want. There is a pro studio ideal for recording full bands. This kind of studio can deliver CD master recordings. The other is a project studio, which generally supports recording electronic synths, samplers and maybe a few live players when needed. The quality level meets TV and film standards.

Another form of studio is the home MIDI electronica mainly software studio with at least one or two mics. It could also be a demo or a song writing studio with mics or even just a little hobby studio, or just want to make music studio. All the above mentioned options can be accomplished but there are certain things you also need to look into really carefully before buying music gear.

Avoid buying the same feature over and over again on different pieces of music gear. You may only end up otherwise having a number of preamps, samplers and recorders that you cannot use and they are just an additional expenditure.

Do not buy Cubase and Sonar and try to get them to work together. Or get Sound Forge and Sonar, as these applications will not work at all on a Mac. Therefore, it is advisable to be well versed with the music gear before purchasing them.

The recorder you choose be it a multi track, computer sequencer, or MPC 4000 and MV8800 are the most far reaching decision you can make. But, you have to consider that choice carefully. It is advisable to learn one form and master it, and then you can resort considering buying them.

There are stores that offer 30 days return policy on music gear. This can also be a great idea that makes it real easy for you. Get it for trial and when you find it is perfect for you then only you can opt to buy.

Many people face a lot of difficulties with the software they buy because they do not understand or misread the recommended requirements to run the software. Never buy software if you cannot meet the stated requirements.

When buying a music gear try to stick to the companies that are supremely focused on your computer platform, your operating system and in some cases your motherboard and your CPU. Some soundcard drivers may refuse to work well with some chipsets on some motherboards.

Do a thorough research before buying music gear. Ask questions from your dealer or you will end up spending extra for your digital mixer. Therefore, the price of a piece of gear, which is at a lower price, may mean spending another extra dollars to make it work.

Always buy the latest music gear to avoid future expenditure. Buy the cheaper or a secondary music gear now, and then it will be outdated in some years and you will have to buy the new one and this will cause unnecessary expenditure. It is best to wait a year or two after the release and then buy the finished, mature, stable products. Features may look good on paper but may not sound good in music. If you buy cheap music gear you may just end up buying again.

Besides the above mentioned tips of buying music gear, there are other variables you need to look into, like the cost of service, the upgrades, software and many more. Above all, the bottom line is the sound that should be your prime concern. Focus on the sound coming out of the speakers. Great sound never goes out of style.

How to Make a Professional Music Video at Home

,
BEST MUSIC MAKING SOFTWARE :

How to Create Your Own Professional Music Video from Home

How to Make a Professional Music Video at Home

Today, many who go web-surfing run into spoof music videos that get millions of views. Sadly, more than half of those people who got 1,000,000+ views missed an opportunity of earning ,000 or more from just that YouTube upload. Why is this so? I will let you know near the end of this article. Shall we get back to the topic?

For those who think it isn't possible to make a high quality music video from home like the ones you see on television, I am here to tell you that it IS possible to make even BETTER videos. You may not be able to create one as good on the first try, but again who is? It takes perfection; following these 5 steps:

Step 1: Music

Of course a music video isn't a music video without music. Find an instrumental that you want to create a song to and download it. A good program that I recommend for downloading instrumentals would be Frostwire. You can download it from frostwire.com. It is completely free to download and use. Or so it was the last time I checked. Be careful when downloading from Frostwire though. The first two or three files at the top are usually tricks, but you can easily tell them apart. The false ones usually match your search phrase word for word, letter for letter, and are lower case. Also check the file size to the right of each result. Instrumentals and songs are usually at an average file size of 1,000 Kb for each minute of a song. So if an instrumental you're looking for is about 3 minutes long, the file size should be around 3,000 Kb. The false ones at the top are usually at a small file size, around 10-30 kb.

I used to use Frostwire until I began creating my own music with music production software. If you want to make money from YouTube, I suggest you make your own instrumentals like I do. Anyone can learn to make a simple beat. Some good music production software I recommend to use for the PC would be Fruity Loops Studio. The latest version is FL Studio 9, but FL Studio 5, 6, 7, and 8 are just as good. If you want to pay for it, you can buy it at your local computer store or online at flstudio.com, but if you want it for free, I suggest you use Frostwire, since it can also download programs for free too. For the Mac users, your computer should already come with a music production software called GarageBand. In my opinion, GarageBand's instruments sound more professional than Fruity Loops. Both programs have user manuals available in the help menu and Garageband has a beginner tutorial. For any other tutorials, I suggest that you search YouTube for Fruity Loops Beginner Tutorials or Garageband beginner tutorials.

Other PC Music Production softwares include Reason, Sonar, and Nuendo. Another Mac music production software is Logic Pro. The music industry itself specializes mainly with a software called Protools. It's compatible with both PC and Mac, but is usually the software preferred for studio recording. If you decide to use Protools at all, I recommend that you buy it rather than downloading it for many reasons. Trust me on this one.

Step 2: Lyrics

Of course, music videos don't ALWAYS have lyrics, but if you do decide to, make sure you write lyrics to the instrumental and keep them for the studio recording, which we will get to later. (Lyrical tip: Keep your lyrics fairly clean and it may be more marketable! Make it hilarious or comical, and it may get more plays! Ex. Search "White and Nerdy" on YouTube)

Step 3: Home Studio (Session) Recording

The best software for studio session recording starters is Cool Edit Pro. Cool Edit Pro is only PC compatible though. I learned it on my own through experimentation, but for tutorials, I'm sure you can find them on YouTube. There is also a user manual in the help menu. You can also download Cool Edit Pro for free using Frostwire. For the Mac users, once again, congratulations! You can record yourself using Garageband! To do so after you have finished creating your instrumental on Garageband, at the top click Track> New Track> Real Instrument> Create. You will notice that on the left, a track for recording appears that is titled "No Effects". If you have a microphone plugged in, test it out by speaking into it. The green bar next to "No Effects" should rise every time you speak. If not, check your System Preferences for Sound and switch to Built-In Mic/Internal Microphone. Most Mac laptops have a built-in microphone. Most of them are found on the left speaker at the bottom right side, but only on laptops. For PC laptops, your microphone may be found in the top of the monitor in the middle, left, or right corner.

For more advanced users, session recordings can be done with Protools. You can buy microphones, but the cheap ones are usually not good recording microphones at all. If you have a built-in microphone, you're in luck; because believe it or not, it is better than most microphones under . Just make sure you adjust the volumes of each separate recording you do accordingly, regardless of which mic you use. You can make a bad mic sound much better than it does by altering the volumes.

P.S Tip: How to Autotune

Unfortunately, I only know how to do Autotune with the Fruity Loops users and the Garageband users. For the FL users, you have to download a plug-in called Antares and drag it into Fruity Loops. As for the Mac and Garageband users..... you guys are very lucky. GarageBand comes with a built-in Autotuning system. To use it, at the top click Track> New Track> Real Instrument> Create. If your Audio Region at the bottom is not visible, at the top, click Control> Show Editor, or just press Apple+E. Turn the "Enhance Tuning" in your Audio Region all the way up. Then look just below that switch, and check in the box "Limit to Key".

Step 4: Recording the video

To record the video, you're going to need a decent quality camera. But just because you have a decent quality camera alone doesn't mean that the video is going to be great. It's all about how you put it together. As far as quality goes, I recommend the Jazz Elite HD Portable Camera for starters. It's a 0 high definition camera, but you can get it for only 0 at electrotech.totalwarehouse.com. I haven't found a cheaper high definition video camera online yet, but if I do, I will let you know. Also, looking into getting a tripod would help for stabilization. You can find those at Wal-mart for pretty low prices.

Also, if you're trying to make money on YouTube, make sure to keep other company products' logos and titles out of the video as much as possible. YouTube can prevent money making from almost any logo being shown publicly in your video. This also includes logos on shirts, so just make sure that whatever clothing you choose to wear for the video, that the emblems or logos of your shirt's producers are not visible.

Step 5: Putting the video together

Hook up your camera to the computer and transport all of your video clips in a folder. For PC video production beginners, I recommend using Windows Movie Maker. It comes with every Windows computer. If you can't find it, just click Start (or the windows icon for Vista users) at the bottom left side of the screen. Go to Programs> Accesssories> Windows Movie Maker, or Programs> Accessories> Entertainment> Windows Movie Maker. If you can't find it in either of those places, go to My Computer, open up the Local Drive (usually C:), and go to the Program Files folder. Look for a folder called Windows Movie Maker and look for the startup icon. For Mac users, there is iMovie. The video clips can be dragged or imported into both of these programs to use. If your PC or Mac came with the Adobe Collection, you may also use Adobe Premiere Pro, which is compatible with both computers. Adobe After Effects is a more advanced software to use for special effects, but you can easily learn it through 10 short tutorials at videocopilot.net. A much more advanced video editor is Final Cut Pro for the Mac users, used by real industry movie makers.

There are video tutorials for all of these softwares on YouTube, but, in my opinion, Windows Movie Maker is ridiculously easy to use; but Adobe Premiere has more tools and effects that you can do to your video. Adobe Premiere also has green screen keying, which Movie Maker does not have. If you are looking to make music video production or music production a future career, I suggest you look into a college called Full Sail University. It is known as the "Harvard of Entertainment and Media Schools" and has one of the three best film programs in the world and the top 5 Recording Arts programs in the country. It is a high-paced school, and you can receive your Bachelor's in either program in 20 months. To look further into this school, visit the Full Sail website.

Make sure you render your video in a high quality setting too. "Rendering" just means saving the video in video format. The higher the quality, the longer it may take to finish saving the video, but it may be worth it. If you have the Jazz Elite HD Portable Camera, you may not have to worry about quality as much.

Extra Step: Earn Money Through YouTube

To earn money, simply reach over 200,000 views with your video. YouTube will send you instructions on how to set it up and will review your video to make sure that there are no copyright infringements.

But as for music videos in general, I've seen the best and I've seen the worst. The quality of the final product all comes down to how you use these tools to the best of your creative ability. Show laziness in production, and lazy is how the final product will appear to be. Happy music making!

The Best Music Organizing Software - Delete Duplicate Songs, Get Album Artwork, and Fix Mp3 Tags

If you are like most music lovers, your collection of songs have grown to a point where you need to get a handle on managing your music library. It is frustrating having all these duplicate songs only because the titles may be misspelled. You have grown accustom to the artwork of each song and it is annoying to enjoy a song but no original artwork appears to be available. The best music organizing software hits a home run when all the other software management programs have struck out.

Duplicate Songs

Duplicate songs not only take up valuable disk space but can cost you more when you are paying for duplicate songs. iTunes sorting software searches our music collection for duplicate songs even if the titles are misspelled. You now have a list of duplicate songs but how do you know which one to delete since each song quality may be different. Great music organizing software will have a simulation mode that allows you to hear the difference in each song recording so you can choose which one to discard. By taking advantage of this cool feature, you avoid getting rid of the one you really wanted to keep in your collection.

Misspelled Song Titles

Are you having a hard time browsing your iPod for songs because the titles are misspelled or the songs have missing song details? The program can search through your music collection and automatically fixes song titles that are misspelled. The program can even correct missing details such artist name, music tracks, album or even genre details. It replaces the wrong information and puts it in the right format to make browsing your iPod for songs so much easier. Automatic music organizers have taken the hassle out of music management since this process is automatically completed without you having to type anything.

Complete ID3 Tags

A nice feature about application is you can set it up to automatically find and update your music library with the artist name, the year the album was released, and the song genre. Using this feature puts the fun back into listening to your music. Why would you want to spend a lot of time trying to find a song when the software can organize your music to make it easier to find? It is so easy to just keep downloading music and eventually you have a mess on your hands.

There are a lot of music management programs on the web today. But only one has taken the best features and improved on them while combining them all into one software program.

How to Make Your Own Techno Music With the Best Techno Music Software

,
BEST MUSIC MAKING SOFTWARE :

Are you often amazed how professional disc jocks spin their disks and produce sounds with beats that makes the club people hit the dance floor and groove to their sounds? Well, with a knack for creating professional-sounding beats and a computer, you can become a DJ and make your own techno music without using expensive software programs or needing a band.

How to Make Your Own Techno Music With the Best Techno Music Software

Basically, there are two forms of techno music: mash-ups and bootlegs. Mash-up is mixing up two different tracks and adding other music elements into a one single track. Bootlegs are an unauthorized recording of an artist's performance and adding sound enhancements and doing some sound engineering. You can take hip hop songs and mix with club music. You can simply make your own techno music by using beat making software. You can explore various sound mixes and save each of it into different audio files. And if it happens, you might create a techno beat that will be a hit, and you can sell it for tons and tons of dollars.

Your road to become a successful professional techno music creator has now become simpler. If you are a beginner and quite unsure where to begin to make your own techno music, you can purchase inexpensive techno music software and try it for yourself. You can analyze the music you have created with the software and then create twists to make the music better.

The problem is finding the best software to make techno music. There are many out there and I have tried most of them.

Things You Need to Make Free Online Instrumentals

,
BEST MUSIC MAKING SOFTWARE :

If you want to help other budding musicians by letting them use your own masterpieces, you might want to make free online instrumentals that they can download and they can sue to create their own music. This is especially helpful for vocalists and lyricists who are clueless when it comes to creating background music or they do not have enough money to pay to hire a composer. But before you can do this, you need to have several things first.

Things You Need to Make Free Online Instrumentals

If you have not heard of the sequencer digital audio workstation or DAW, then you should learn more about it because it is one of the best software that can edit audio and .wav files. Files in this format are very easy to manipulate, one reason why this sequencer is the favorite among artists and musicians.

You can also choose midi controllers which are audio hardware gear. Though a lot of artists like to use the sequencer DAW, there are some who prefer midi controllers because they said they can express their artistic or creative skills and talents when they use this.

Some artists who are perfectionists in their craft use both. They want to make sure that they can enjoy the benefits of each of these great tools when creating free online instrumentals.

The truth is no one is better than the other. It all boils down to what you think will work best for you. If you have tried both and found out that the midi controller and the sequencer DAW are both good for you, then you can choose to use both of them. But if you have a preference, maybe one is easier to manipulate or creates better sound, in your opinion, than the other, then you can choose either one of the two.

Do You Know the Dangers - Guide to Types of Computer Viruses & Malware

,
BEST MUSIC MAKING SOFTWARE :

Computer security is an essential part of protection for your PC from the dangers lurking on the Internet, in fact, surfing the net without Malware Security is like walking through a hospital without an Immune System. There are zillions of threats, from minimal nuisances to severe Malware that can completely and permanently disable vital functions to where the entire operating system needs to be reinstalled and all programs and data lost.

Do You Know the Dangers - Guide to Types of Computer Viruses & Malware

What is Malware: Malware is short for malicious code software (mal-ware), which includes any and all forms of code designed with malicious intent. Malware is the umbrella under which all security dangers exist, such as viruses, worms, spyware, phishing, adware, tracking cookies and rootkits.

What is a computer Virus: Threat Level - Intermediate to Severe. A computer virus is a malicious code that adds itself to other programs that exist on the computer (host), including operating systems. Many computer viruses spread quickly and wreck havoc on the system host, including potential destruction of operating systems and data.

There are different types of viruses and they range from being a nuisance that constantly displays pop-ups to severe dangers that delete system files, attach to registries, destroy the user's ability to log into the Internet and even destroying the computer's operating system along with all the data that is on it. Unless you have completely backed-up the data on your PC, recovering that data will be impossible if you have to re-install the operating system after a virus infection.

While there are many different viruses, the Trojan Horse is one of the most severe and all though threat severity levels vary within the different types of Trojans, basically they are all dangerous and should always be protected against. Unfortunately some Trojans infect computers and cause such damage that it becomes irreversible and a reinstall of the entire operating system becomes necessary.

The best protection against computer viruses is prevention, early detection and removal. A good anti-virus/ Malware security software can protect your computers and provide peace of mind when surfing the net.

P2P File Sharing and Virus Dangers: One of the easiest ways to get a virus is by downloading unsafe freeware, shareware or person 2 person (P2P) from file sharing sites. Specifically those sites that provide P2P free music downloads. Some of these sites are Limewire, Bearshare and Morpheus. Users create a free account on these sites, download the software (which is sometimes full of Spyware/Adware on its own) and get access to millions of other peoples files through what is called the Gnutella Network. Users can search for MP3 music files and download them from other people's computers through this Network.

First, this is illegal, but that's a whole other topic. With these types of downloads there is no way of knowing what is actually on these files and it is easy to download a serious viruses and especially a Trojan. These P2P sites should be avoided to ensure computer security. For a few bucks you can get legal and safe music downloads at sites like Napster and Rhapsody. Play it safe, paying the few bucks is well worth it, as it can save lots of money, not to mention the hassle of having to fix a damaged computer.

Worms: Threat Level - Severe. A computer Worm is a a type of especially nasty Malware that is a self-replicating computer program, which at one point almost brought the entire Internet to its knees. Unlike a virus, it doesn't attach itself to an existing program and does not infect computer files, instead it wrecks havoc on systems as it creates endless copies of itself, with the goal of taking up as much space as possible on the PC and creating program problems.

Worms almost always cause harm to the network, if only by consuming bandwidth, whereas viruses almost always corrupt or modify files on a targeted computer. Internet worms are most prevalent today in the form of email attachments. Two of the worst worms ever were Mydoom and Morris.

Worms are usually sent via email by attachments, you should never open an attachment in your email from an unknown source. Also, when deciding on an anti virus security program it is important to make sure that the email scanner is activated and that the software covers protection, detection and removal features for worms.

Spyware: Threat Level - Low to Severe. Spyware is one of the most common types of Malware and often slows computer performance. Spyware spies on your web browsing activities and comes in forms of keyloggers (where your keystrokes are monitored), recording/sending your web browsing habits to a third party, causing unwanted pop-up adds, hijacking home/search pages and making changes to them, as well as, redirecting browsing results.

A Spyware infection can be caught in several ways. One way is by clicking on a bad link from a bad site. Two, through small windows of advertising that pop up during web browsing (pop-ups). Third, there is what is called a drive-by type download and that is where Spyware infects computers without the user noticing, just by visiting a bad web page. Tip: All web browsers allow you to check a "block pop-ups" selection which can be accessed from the browser toolbar under options.

Adware: Threat Level: Low to Intermediate. Adware is Advertising Display Software that delivers ads in a manner or context that is unexpected, unsolicited and automatically loaded. Many adware applications also perform tracking functions, and therefore may also be categorized as Tracking Technologies. Adware causes pop-up windows with advertisements in the browser based on the information it collects from the user's browsing patterns. Sometimes adware may be installed in conjunction with a companion Spyware program.

Phishing: Threat Level - Severe. Phishing is a form of Internet fraud that aims at identity theft. It's purpose is to steal valuable information such as credit cards, social security numbers, user IDs and passwords.

A phishing site is a duplicate of a legitimate site and it is created to dupe users into logging in and therefore stealing private information. Many phishing scams are perpetrated via mass emails which alert the customer to some problem with your customer account or some other hook, usually from a bank, or Paypal or some other institution and it lures people into entering their private data by following a link to the phishing site of a real site.

The recent IRS rebates spawned a phishing scam, where mass emails were sent with IRS logos informing taxpayers that they are due a rebate check but they must first follow the IRS link and input their information to receive the rebate. The link, of course, leads to a phishing site where unsuspecting people enter personal information, like social security numbers which are then hijacked by identity thieves.

It is important to realize that most reputable companies do not usually send emails soliciting private data. In fact, Paypal explicitly lets its users know that they never solicit customers via email in any way. The IRS has a fraud alert on their homepage advising taxpayers of such phishing scams. If you get emails like this just hit the SPAM button and run for your life or at the very least check with the institution that sent the email in some other way.

There is also the danger of running into a phishing site while web browsing, it is important to have computer security software that will alert to phishing sites with real-time protection. Phishing security is NOT standard on all anti virus software and Malware removal programs. When considering a security program make sure to look for phishing protection.

Drive-By Downloads: Threat Level - Low to Severe

Drive-By download is where all types of Malware can infect your computer via a visit to a web page. The Malware codes are embedded in these bad sites and looks for users computers to become hosts to attach itself to. It is important to look for drive-by or real time protection when considering security software. Drive-by or real time protection should be included on the anti virus software that is on the computer.

Rootkits: Threat Level - Severe. Rootkits are really bad because they can hide their existence from operating systems and users and cause major destruction. Because Rootkits create stealth program codes that run at a lower level than can be detected with all normal anti virus software and Malware removal programs, it is crucial to make sure that the security software explicitly protects against rootkits.

Cookies: Threat Level - Low. Some cookies are positive and really do not harm to your system in anyway, they simply temporarily store your log-in information so that you do not have to enter it again when you return to that site. Plus, many sites will not run properly without cookies enabled and so they are a necessary element. And these temporary cookies can be cleared from within your browser at any time you.

On the other hand Tracking Cookies are a form of Tracking Technology. Tracking Cookies are used to track the surfing habits of users in order to manage, analyze advertising data, and they may be used with the more malicious intent of monitoring user activity more closely. Tracking cookies are usually easily detected and protection from them comes standard on most anti virus and Malware security software.

It can be more difficult to remove Malware if infection occurs than to protect against it and some Malware causes such damage that a complete operating system reinstall is required. There are many Malware security softwares, including some great free ones, and firewalls, that offer various levels of protection.
